Background
Youths today might be aware of the whole debacle on climate change. Yet, few are taking action of any kind. Indeed, the fundamental problem at hand is that people do not delve deeper beyond the vague and oftentimes confusing information on this pertinent issue. The public knows, and is aware of things at a very basic surface level, but have never had the opportunity and time to go deeper beyond the shallow and general context of the emerging global crisis.
Built around this concept, our project entitled Planet In Peril, seeks to raise awareness of this issue through seminars, exhibitions, a competition and an interactive online resource to educate our youths of today as well as the general public. This will be achieved mainly through our online resource, as well as our various events to raise awareness of the issue.
Aims
- To allow people to understand more, and delve deeper into the issues of climate change and to remove some myths and misconceptions that people may have.
- To encourage youths of today to take a more active role in dealing with climate change.
Mechanics
Team Impact is coming up with multiple avenues to promote awareness regarding this issue. We will try to our utmost ability to look for sponsorships from corporate sectors, which could subsidize our budget in organizing our events.
Our team will be developing a web-based resource package targeted at the general public. This resource would be largely different from the multitudes one can find from the internet. This resource package would be appealing and offer more substantive information and analysis then just the superficial information one can find from the media. The resource would emphasize the significance of the issue.
Besides, we will also be holding seminars. It will be targeted towards youths who will definitely find it useful, as we seek to offer a different perspective for environmental issues. We would be inviting engaging speakers experienced in this field to talk to students. Discussions regarding environmental issues would be held and it would be an enriching experience for all students attending the seminar.
Next, we plan to hold several exhibitions in various schools and public places. These exhibitions would aim to educate the public on the facts of climate change as well as highlight the significance of these issues to them.
Finally, we will organize a competition related to issues regarding the environment. This could come in the form of an essay writing competition where the main theme would be the environment. This competition would involve primary schools over Singapore as we seek to use this opportunity to educate our youths of the issues regarding climate change. Through this, we would also raise the profile of our online resource and portal. We would search for sponsors for the prizes of the competition to attract more people to participate in it. Overall, this competition would involve more youths in protecting our environment and raise awareness among students as well.
